Kalie's Fur Family

It wasn’t until we started gathering information from each staff member about their fur families that we realized just how large Kalie’s was. It doesn’t matter what kind of animal you’re talking about. Kalie loves them.

Ryder is a total sweetheart.

Ryder

We begin with the big dog himself. Ryder was named after he jumped into the truck bed and decided to chill out. He was discovered on a dirt road by volunteers with the Portage Animal Welfare society and after not being able to find out where he came from, Kalie adopted him. It’s believe he will turn 3 in June. Ryder is a huge fan of car rides, walking, playing fetch, and also heading to the beach (to chase the birds…) If you want to see a dog get excited and spin like a top, ask Ryder if he is hungry. (Spoiler: Yes. Yes, he is.)

Cinder

Most rabbits love carrots. Don’t try the “What’s up, doc?” thing with her. She’s more of a banana lover. She loves boxes, her toys, and the sound of the treat drawer. She also enjoys chewing phone chargers. This three-year-old bunny has destroyed FOUR phone chargers since she joined Kalie’s fur family. We think she’s trying to teach Kalie the importance of “disconnecting from the digital world” but I think Kalie thinks she’s just being a jerk, based on her facial expression when she was telling that story.

JC

The man of the house… SORRY, I meant the KING of the house, is JC. This cat (who will turn 7 in August) knows it, too. He has his own chair (a throne?) that he sits in to watch the humans eat. (He has a two-bean rule where he can only have one foot on the table while they eat, and he does his best to follow it.) He loves to play with Cinder and can often be found invading her kennel and stealing her water. If he wants to go outside, you’ll know about it. Sleep in this morning? No, thanks. JC wants to go outside. Take him out or he gets “screamy”. Don’t leave a whole loaf of bread on the counter or it will disappear. (We’ve discovered he likes chips, too.) JC was also rescued from PAWS, and although JC sounds like a handful, he’s a great cat.

Steve and Oreo

Steve was named after the monkey from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. (If you’ve seen the movie, I think you’ll get it.) He’s a long-haired Syrian who is about 7-months-old and lives in the biggest tank in the room. Oreo was named because… well, look at him. He needs constant haircuts or it gets crazy and bedding gets all up in it. Oreo is a senior (1.5-years-old) and is also a long-haired Syrian. He lives in the smaller tank.

Oreo. We never claimed to be clever when it comes to names.

All in all, everyone gets along well and it’s one happy family. You can follow along with Ryder, Cinder, JC, Steve and Oreo on Instagram by clicking here! Thank you to Kalie for sharing their stories!
