About

It all started when…

Kenny’s K9 was founded in 2017 in MacGregor, Manitoba, driven by Kennedy's long-held dream of owning her own salon. This aspiration took root during her early career in Edmonton in 2015, where she began volunteering at the local humane society. Immersed in the world of K9s, she walked dogs, supervised playtime, and dedicated herself to various fundraising events. After ten months, Kennedy embarked on a transformative journey to Thailand, volunteering with a dog rescue program. For 30 days, she participated in missions to rescue injured and malnourished street dogs, bringing them back to shelters, providing medical care, and learning essential sanitation techniques. However, the heartbreaking reality of not being able to save every dog made her realize that the veterinary field wasn't her true calling.

Returning home, Kennedy resumed her volunteer work and her previous job. It quickly became clear that her passion for K9s was stronger than ever. She began walking dogs for clients and pet sitting before landing a position at a local dog daycare and boarding facility—her dream job. Instantly enamored, she dedicated herself fully, working seven days a week as the primary caregiver, maintaining kennels, exercising the dogs, and performing basic grooming tasks. One day, the daycare owner shared an ad for a local grooming shop, knowing it aligned with Kennedy’s ambitions. She secured the position, apprenticing at what she affectionately referred to as the "Prada" of dog grooming shops. Under the guidance of K-9 Master Stylers, the best groomers in Edmonton, she honed her skills and techniques. Additionally, she worked evenings at another daycare, gaining valuable experience in Pack Leadership and teaching six-week classes on leadership and basic obedience skills.

As Kennedy returned to MacGregor, her focus shifted to establishing her own dog grooming and pet sitting business. To her surprise, it flourished beyond expectations! Within six months, she reduced her hours at her full-time job to dedicate more time to her salon, and that same year, she opened a second location in Portage La Prairie, expanding her grooming, daycare, and training services. Kenny’s K9 thrived in Portage, employing six people and introducing an array of new offerings, including trick training and animal classes. She created a charming boutique shop, expanded her Portage location in 2019, and built a loyal clientele, welcoming an average of 15 dogs to the daycare daily.

Now, as we celebrate eight beautiful years in business, we reflect on our growth and evolution. Closing the chapter in Portage, where we operated for seven years, is bittersweet but ultimately what’s best for our founder, Kennedy Hardinge. During our time in Portage, we provided services like Celluma red light therapy, paint classes, pet first aid, space rentals for pet parties, and hydro water therapy. As we streamline our services, we are returning to our roots—focusing on grooming. Our mission is to create a tranquil, one-on-one environment for a luxury pet spa experience in a small town—offering quiet, reliable, and professional grooming as we transition into 2026.

Kenny’s K9 has become a second family to so many people and their pets. We hope that when you visit, you'll feel the same warmth and community spirit! Thank you for stopping by to check us out; we can’t wait to meet you and your faithful companion.

Love, Kenny’s K9
