Kenny's K9: At the Movies

One of the best ways to relax after a long week is to cuddle up with your pooch and watch a movie you both will enjoy. After polling the staff at Kenny's K9, we have a list of five films you can throw on right now to have a good time. Here they are in alphabetical order.

A DOG'S WAY HOME

A recent favourite, 'A Dog's Way Home' is the story of Bella – a puppy who ends up 400 miles away from her human Lucas. It's a two-year journey that features many close calls but Bella must do what she can to get back home. I won't spoil too much but I really don't like that Günter Beckenbauer very much. It's a heart-warming tale that we think you might enjoy!

AIR BUD

Going sort of old school for this one! Back in 1997, a Golden Retriever by the name of Air Buddy caught the imaginations of dog lovers everywhere. A dog playing basketball?! I'll be honest – it isn't the best movie out there but my goodness, he's so cute. I think this was the movie that forced schools to enforce a rule that dogs cannot play on the team. Spoiler: he makes a basket at some point, and it's pretty great. The volleyball sequel? Well, let's not talk about that one.

HACHI: A DOG'S TALE

It doesn't feel like it, but 'Hachi: A Dog's Tale' came out just over a decade ago. This is an American adaptation of a Japanese film that is apparently based on a true story. It is about a grandfather and his dog Hachiko and it's a story about loyalty. The film has become so famous that there is a bronze statue of Hachi at the station where the movie was shot and the train depot has been named Hachiko Place. The moral of the story? You should never forget anyone you have loved.

HOMEWARD BOUND: THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY

This is the oldest film on our list. Dating back to 1993, Homeward Bound is the story of Shadow, Chance, and Sassy, who are accidentally left alone at a farm. Afraid they may have been abandoned, they begin the incredible journey to try and find their family. The voice acting is fantastic and there is a reason why people still talk about this movie almost three decades later. Audiences absolutely loved it and it's easy to see why.

MARLEY & ME

The tears start coming as soon as I think about this one. This 2008 movie is the story of Marley and all fourteen years of his life. (As a result of this, 22 dog actors were used during filming!) If you don't know anything about this film, fair warning: it doesn't have the happiest of endings. I don't care who you are – there is a good chance you're going to cry.

That's our list of five films you can watch with your dog. Do you have any favourite dog movies? Let us know on our Facebook page or send us a message on Instagram. If we get enough responses, maybe we can do a list of YOUR favourite furry friend films!
