New Year's Resolutions: Part 2!

We are just a few days away from beginning the second-half of our 2021 New Year's Resolutions. Every month, our Kenny's K9 crew will be clipping nails in support of local causes across the Central Plains. We started this project in January, and we have had a blast.

Here are four more of the great groups we are happy to help.

MAY: Portage Community Shelter ($322.90)

In May, we teamed up with the Portage Community Shelter. Did you know that earlier this month, they celebrated their one year anniversary of joining up with the Portage Community Revitalization Corporation? They have been a huge help to the homeless population in Portage and we appreciate everything they've done so far. You can follow them on Facebook here. Note: they are looking for home-cooked meals to line their freezers. Can you help out?

JUNE: Sunset Palliative Care ($316.05)

Sunset Palliative Care has been such a huge help for us. It started back in 1994 and has been a tremendous help to many people and their families. We very much appreciate the volunteers that help out, too. They make it a priority to not only provide support for the needs of the dying and their families, but to also “respect the confidentiality of client and family, and the individual’s cultural and religious life.” You can read more about this wonder group here.

JULY: Portage Women's Shelter

The Portage Women's Shelter is this Wednesday's group that we have chosen to support. The Portage Women's Shelter is open for women and children who need a safe place to stay, food, and many other services. Anyone who needs to contact the shelter can call 204-239-5234. On another positive note, did you read the story about how the Central Plains AAA U18 Female Capitals hockey team raised some money for the shelter? Read about it here!

AUGUST: Central Plains Cancer Services

Next month, we focus on the Central Plains Cancer Services. It's a grassroots, not-for-profit that helps cancer patients, survivors, and their families. They have been responsible for fantastic programs like Kids Can Cope, Care for Kids Fighting Cancer, and their transportation program which helps people get to their appointments. You can read more about them here.

That's part two of our New Year's Resolutions and we plan to keep going. Thank you to everyone who takes part each month to help us give back to these great groups doing such important work.

Part three of the resolutions will feature the Manitoba Farm and Rural Support Services, the Portage Bear Clan, Portage Service for Seniors and the Portage Salvation Army.
